My role as a Social Worker free essay sample
Living a life as a social worker can be a very interesting but stressful job. With this particular career comes the good with the bad and one must be very careful while out in the field. I would like to become a social worker for abused and neglected children as I have a passion for our children of the world today. Also to take on a case of a child whom has been abused or neglected will put a mark in my heart but as a professional I must still follow the code of ethics. A social workerââ¬â¢s duties can expand amongst a number of jobs but are all within the same means. Social work is a profession for individuals with a strong desire to help improve peopleââ¬â¢s lives. As a social worker we actually help people function the best way possible within their environment, deal with certain relationships, and most of all solve personal and family problems. We will write a custom essay sample on My role as a Social Worker or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page We often see clients facing social problems, life threatening diseases, or even abuse or neglect amongst an adult or child. This is primary the ethical part of becoming a social worker, to help people in need and by addressing the social problem. These services are rendered from the knowledge, value, and skills learned prior to submitting such work. Most social workers are encouraged to volunteer some of their professional skills with no expectation of any financial obligation (ââ¬Å"An Introduction to Social Problemsâ⬠, pg. 11). With all being the case there are more moral responsibilities I would have to take on as a leader in being a social worker. Another thing is that as a social worker we challenge social injustice and by doing so we pursue social change, mainly focusing on vulnerable and oppressed individuals and groups of people. The issues which are focused mostly on within injustice would be poverty, discrimination, unemployment, and other forms of social injustice. Also within social injustice comes the thinking and knowledge to respect and understand each individual cultural and ethnic diversity. This list can go on and on when pertaining to becoming a social worker because you must also respect the inherent dignity and worth of a person. Knowing that we all come from many different cultures and have many different diversity backgrounds but again as a worker must always respect the individual. Remaining professional at all times is a must so you must recognize the importance of human relationships. Always behave in a trustworthy manner as everything has a rule and regulation to it. With all tied up in one social workers must act in an honest and responsible manner and always promote ethical practices on behalf of the organizations affiliated with. And last but not least practicing within the areas of competence and develop and enhance their professional expertise some of the codes will then become broken. (ââ¬Å"An Introduction to Social Problemsâ⬠, pg. Being that all duties of a social worker has been outlined I would still be sure to follow a very strict format when dealing with any client as all are treated equally. I do understand each case is different but since we are dealing with people lives there are still many ethical concerns when working on cases. I will build a professional only relationship with my client because although we are not supposed to be on a personal note, I would want my client to feel very comfortable and open with me to get the case resolved in a timely manner. Office visits only will be permitted, no meeting outside of work grounds as then it does becomes unethical. If you plan to become or even remain to be a social worker there are many rules and regulations to abide by and most definitely respect. In essence I choose the field of social worker to assist and help the abused and neglected children within my area and while pursuing such degree I plan to study and learn as many different valuable piece of information which will guide and help me succeed in the near future on my career path and journey.

Finding Grace by Alyssa Brugman
Finding Grace by Alyssa Brugman Free Online Research Papers The novel, Finding Grace, by Alyssa Brugman explores the issue of the treatment of the disabled through the character of Grace. By slowly unveiling her story through the spooky box, the reader appreciates the value of life. The mystery surrounding the spooky box captures the readerââ¬â¢s attention to convey Graceââ¬â¢s values and beliefs. Grace assists Rachel and the reader to realise that the disabled should be treated with dignity and have a worthy life. Before the accident, Grace was very clear about her personal beliefs and values. She was opinionated and headstrong. She was career-oriented and the only barriers holding her back from success were the sexist mentalities of her colleagues. This caused a constant struggle with bosses such as ââ¬Å"little Hitlerâ⬠Andre (p.90) and the ââ¬Å"cowardly, weak and stupidâ⬠Dmitri (p.90). Grace was deprived of jobs she was more than capable of doing because letting women practise law ââ¬Å"just wasnââ¬â¢t doneâ⬠(p.95). This can be seen in her work life where she would not accept sexism merely because ââ¬Å"Ambitious and intelligent women can be scary for men.â⬠(p.94) Grace also possessed the characteristic of honesty, although many of her work colleagues found her to be too outspoken and frank, ââ¬Å"a crime punishable by death for a secretaryâ⬠(p.93) She used this confidence to insult others. This can be seen in her letter to Mr Prestonââ¬â¢s wife where Grace states it is ââ¬Å"flattering that you believe he is unable to resist my alleged temptationsâ⬠(p.148) Grace was also very persistent although others often perceived this as stubbornness. ââ¬Å"She was particularly obstinate about not making coffee.â⬠(p.92) Mr Preston believes that Grace still possesses this persistent quality and ââ¬Å"If thereââ¬â¢s a way outâ⬠of her disabled condition ââ¬Å"Grace will find it.â⬠(p.44) Although Grace appeared, ââ¬Å"as tough as old bootsâ⬠(p.152) she also had a softer side. She was ââ¬Å"moved to tears by the most simple thingâ⬠(p.152) when she saw cars move to let an ambulance past. She also valued her family and friends. Herb and Bill speak of how, ââ¬Å"Her mum and her was real closeâ⬠(p.145) She appreciated them as friends and ââ¬Å"She made a decent pieâ⬠(p.144) for them occasionally. Her relationship with her friend Yvonne also demonstrates her humility. Grace was able to forgive her friend even though they had lost contact. Her sisters are another example of this as she put up with them because they are family despite their forceful and selfish traits. Her relationship with Anthony also shows her ability to love. There are many struggles Grace attempted to overcome. Most of these were based on her work and love life. Her intimate relationship with Anthony, her ââ¬Å"delectable loveâ⬠, caused her many concerns. Grace questioned whether Anthony ââ¬Å"was the oneâ⬠and ââ¬Å"if the word ââ¬Ëmarriageââ¬â¢ frightened him.â⬠(p.162) This was worsened by the fact she was pregnant and felt guilty about their affair. Her relationship with Anthony was detrimental to her career as it was ââ¬Å"abhorrent to our associates.â⬠(p.162) She objected to animal cruelty and loved her cat. This can be seen in her letter to ââ¬ËShouterââ¬â¢ and ââ¬ËScreamerââ¬â¢ where she objects ââ¬Å"to the way you beat your dogâ⬠(p.77) Also, even after the accident when Prickles has been kicked, Grace responds to her catââ¬â¢s distress by ââ¬Å"Swaying rapidlyand making a short breathy sound.â⬠(p.106) Graceââ¬â¢s character increases the readerââ¬â¢s awareness of the dignity of others, in particular, the disabled. She has a great impact on helping Rachel mature. In the start of the novel Rachel perceives Grace as a disabled woman, not a human being. This image changes as her previous life is uncovered. As Rachel undergoes these mental changes, so does the reader. ââ¬Å"Before the accident. Grace had a lifea loverplans for the future.â⬠(p.171)In Rachelââ¬â¢s eyes, Grace changes from being labelled ââ¬Å"Snow Whiteâ⬠, a fictional character, into a real woman; the ââ¬Å"Grace womanâ⬠to ââ¬Å"turtledoveâ⬠. Grace was a complex character before her accident with an appreciation for life. Although she appeared as a tough feminist, behind this mask was still a compassionate woman with feelings. By positioning the reader to form an attachment to the young Grace, Brugman accentuates the sadness of Graceââ¬â¢s situation. This allows the reader to empathise with the disabled and be aware that they deserve to be treated with dignity. A Social Reminder
Later on, their children, Romina Montano and Julius Capule, engage in a love affair which worsens the cold connection between the two conflicting families. The couple strives hard to save their relationship, until they finally decided to abscond and marry each other giving birth to a child who became the key to solve the long existing clash the two families had. The actors that portrayed the characters in the movie like Sharmaine Buencamino, Nonie Buencamino, Isay Alvarez, Robert Sena, Eda Nolan and Dominic Roco showcased their magnificent acting prowess and delivery in their unconventional lines with humor and emotions. Its effective plot is also admirable because it gives extensive interest to its viewers. Behind this promotion, it tackles some of our countryââ¬â¢s great social predicaments. In the movie, competition for money greatly influences a personââ¬â¢s every action and way of living. Commonly, it is the reason that crashes the important relationships and friendships we have. The case of eloping couples is one of the most common problems we hear that events to unplanned families and financial problems. It also illustrates disobedience to parents which may lead to distorted futures and broken families. Generally, the movie tells us that arguing because of money is a waste of time. Friendships should not be destroyed because of small problems. Instead, it should become stronger by these obstacles we face. There is nothing better than to be love and feel peace when youââ¬â¢re with your friends, neighbors and family. For me, this movie deserves a high mark for showing a total package short film and excellent cinematography. Furthermore, I would like to give this movie a credit in putting on a wonderful story in a short length film. How market segmentation can help this business to operate more effectively Market segmentation is when we divide the market into smaller groups. This is done because all people in the market are not the same. These smaller groups we call them segments. People of each segment are similar to each other i.e. in their preferences, attitudes etc. Due to these similarities it is believed that people will respond the same way to a particular marketing strategy (4Ps). A segmentation in order to be successful it require the segment to be homogeneous and the different segments should heterogeneous among them. The segments have to be stable, measurable, identifiable, accessible and actionable. The segments should also be large and profitable. The variables used for segmentation are the following: geographic (region, climate etc.), demographic (age, gender income, socioeconomic status etc.), psychographic (life-style, personality etc.) and behavioral (benefit sought, product usage rate, brand loyalty etc.) When we combine numerous variables in order to understand in-depth a market segment this is what we call depth segmentation. This way i.e. by selecting careful the customers, know their preferences and address to

The Story of Poseidon Essay -- History Greek Gods Mythology Essays
The Story of Poseidon (Roman - Neptune) Poseidon was the ruler of the sea, and a powerful god in Greek mythology who was often called the "Earth-shaker." His father was the Titan Cronus, who at the time was ruler of the Universe, and his mother was Rhea. Cronus was a paranoid ruler, because it had been prophesized that one of his own sons would dethrone him, just as Cronus had done to his father, Uranus. Thus, Cronus would swallow the children whom Rhea bore him. He figured that it was the safest way to ensure that none of his offspring overthrew him. One by one, the children were swallowed by Cronus: first Hestia, then Demeter, Hera, Hades and Poseidon. (Some mythographers claim that Rhea tricked Cronus by presenting a foal instead of the baby Poseidon for consumption, but most agree that Poseidon had been swallowed like the rest of his siblings.) Needless to say, this constant swallowing of her children enraged Rhea. She bore her third son, Zeus, in the middle of the night and gave him for safekeeping to Gaea (Mother Earth). She fooled Cronus into believing he had swallowed his new son by substituting a rock wrapped in baby blankets. When Zeus grew up, and with the help of Gaea and his mother Rhea, he slipped Cronus a potion that made the Titan disgorge the swallowed children. Being gods, they were unharmed, albeit a tad dazed and confused. With Zeus serving as their leader, Poseidon, Hades, Hestia, Demeter and Hera waged war against the Titans for supremacy of the Universe. Assisted by the Cyclops (they gave Zeus his thunderbolts, Poseidon his trident and Hades his helmet of invisibility) and the Hecatoncheires (the Hundred-handed-ones), the siblings fought a terrible war that lasted ten years. In the end they were victorious, banishing their vanquished foes to the deepest depths of the Underworld, called Tartarus. This dark and woeful place is as far beneath the earth as heaven is above the earth. Around Tartarus runs a fence of bronze with gates of bronze, which Poseidon fixed in such as way as to offer no escape, and there the Titans were forever confined. After Zeus, with his brothers and sisters, defeated the Titans and dethroned Cronus, the three brothers drew lots out of a helmet to determine which one of the three realms each would rule. Zeus won the heavens and thus became the supreme ruler, Hades got the Underworld and Poseid... ...rms began, but when he drove in his golden chariot over the water, the storms subsided and tranquil peace followed his wheels. Neptune and his Horses By E. K. Birce, 1880 Ancient sailors and warriors would pray and offer tributes to the great Poseidon prior to undertaking a sea journey. In turn, Poseidon could be cruel and hostile to those who displeased him, such as the hero of the Trojan War, Odysseus, who suffered great tribulations at the hands of Poseidon while embarked on his Odyssey back home. Both the bull and the horse are associated with Poseidon, but the bull is associated with many other gods as well, so the horse can be considered his animal. He was always depicted carrying, or using, his distinguishing weapon, the trident, a three-pronged spear which he used to shatter and shake anything he pleased, much like his brother Zeus used his thunderbolts. That's why he was commonly referred to as the "Earth Shaker". The trident, his symbol, was the gift of the Cyclopes, who had fought with the Olympians versus the Titans. He was always accompanied by his son, Triton, who was half man, half fish. Triton would blow on his seashell to announce Poseidon's arrival.

Office Space
Office space, a critically acclaimed film, although it may seem like this was a comically movie, it tells a much deeper story. Peter Giffins goes to work every day and really hates what he does until a hypnotist brakes the cycle of mundane and boring days . This movie sheds like on the stereo type of cubical America, in the 90s. My analysis will focus on emotional competency; the stress brought on to Peter and how he effectively dealt with it, identity management, listening responses, communication climate, and conflict management styles that take place in this movie.Peter has quite the identity management crises over the course of the movie. Identity management (page 445) is the communication strategies people use to influence how others view them. Peter does this by changing his actions from when he is at work and when he is at home. When peter is at work he acts like a happy employee, but when he is at home all he can do is complain about work and think about work. He even at one point in the move told the hypnotist ââ¬Å"Every day is worst then the lastâ⬠. That doesnââ¬â¢t sound like a man who loves his job.Peter also manages his identity by using nonverbal communications At one point in the movie, office space, peter uses his hands to communicate a strong gesture of hate as he pretends to shoot up his office building. The main actor peter also uses plenty of facile expressions to also help drive his hate in. Nonverbal communications do not even have to be gestures they can be as simple, as his boss, Lumberghââ¬â¢s not making eye contact when he talks to his employees, or the way he stands when talking to petter.Peter meets a lovely waitress, in the move, Joanna, who is played by Jennifer Anderson. Joannaââ¬â¢s boss communicates with her by using his, language illustrate concerns by using vague terms, abstractions and constructively. He does this by asking her about only having 16 pieces of ââ¬Å"flairâ⬠. The minimum requirement for her job, at Chotckeys, as a waitress is 16 but the ââ¬Å"over achieverâ⬠waiter has 36 pieces of ââ¬Å"flairâ⬠. Her boss beats about the bush and basically states ââ¬Å" Brian has 36 pieces of ââ¬Å"flairâ⬠. He could have used more sincere language and just asked her to put more ââ¬Å"flairâ⬠on. Peters boss, Lumbergh, shows poor listening responses by not even looking a peter when he is talking to him. Lumbergh also does not even respond correctly to the rebuttals from peter about the cover letters. Peter told his boss at one point in the movie, office space, ââ¬Å"I already have the cover sheet, right here. â⬠Lumbergh responds by saying ââ¬Å"Iââ¬â¢ll have a copy sent to you. â⬠Lumberghââ¬â¢s shows a complete disregard for what peter told him.Our book states(page 237) that mindless listing, occurs when we react to othersââ¬â¢ messages automatically and routinely, without much mental investment. Lumberghââ¬â¢s responses are all mindle ss responses thought out the movie, office space. In the movie office space the communication between managers and employees are disconfirming by the simple fact that no one lesions to any one or knows any one, one example of this is when another employee doesnââ¬â¢t even know the peters friends names when she hands back the mail.
